Cleavage of amyloid precursor protein by secretases generates functional protein fragments, including Aβ which has been characterized for its role in Alzheimer's disease. As each of these fragments function differently in neurodegeneration, it is important to have antibodies against each cleavage product. Learn more about our anti‐amyloid antibodies that can specifically detect APP cleavage products.
APP Cleavage Products and their Functions
  • ‐ Deposition of Aβ plaques is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. Though they only differ by 2 amino acids, Aβ42 is more likely to form oligomers than Aβ40.
  • sAPPα‐ Modulates synaptic transmission and plasticity through GABA receptors.
  • sAPPβ‐ Involved in pruning synapses during development and influences stem cell differentiation.
  • C‐Terminal Fragments (C83 and C99)‐ Interact with adaptor and signaling proteins and play a role in protein trafficking.
  • AICD‐ Negative regulator of proliferation in progenitor cells and forms a complex with transcriptional regulators to alter gene expression.
