Chemokine Signaling
Chemokines are a subset of cytokines that specifically induce chemotaxis of cells with the appropriate G-protein coupled receptors. Upon chemokine binding to the receptor, G-proteins on the cytoplasmic surface of the plasma membrane induce a number of pathways. These varied pathways lead to the promotion of cell survival, proliferation, and cytoskeletal changes that induce cell migration.
