IHC staining of Purified anti-BG-4 Recombinant (clone 17-206.RecM1) on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human antrum (stomach) tissue. The tissue was incubated with primary antibody overnight at 4°C. BioLegend’s Ultra Streptavidin HRP Kit (Multi-Species, DAB, Cat. No. 929501) was used for detection followed by hematoxylin counterstaining. The images were captured using a 10X (panel A) and 40X (panel B) objective. Scale bar: 50 µm

Description

BG-4, also known as blood group antigen H (type 1), is a carbohydrate sequence linked to a protein or ceramide. BG-4 is a precursor to the A and B antigens in the ABO system. For individuals with O type blood, the BG-4 antigen remains unmodified. BG-4 formation is catalyzed by the fucosyltransferase 1 enzyme (FUT1). BG-4 is expressed on erythrocytes and epithelial cells, and is thought to play a role in immune response, cell-cell recognition, and in the structural integrity of cells.
