Total cell lysate from HUVEC cells (lane 1, 15 µg) and THP-1 cells (lane 2, 15 µg) were resolved by electrophoresis (4-20% Tris-Glycine gel), transferred to nitrocellulose, and probed with purified anti-CD105 (Endoglin) antibody (clone O99E5). Proteins were visualized using an HRP Goat anti-mouse IgG Antibody and chemiluminescence detection. Direct-Blot™ HRP anti-β-actin antibody (clone 2F1-1) was used as a loading control.

Description

CD105 (Endoglin) is expressed by endothelial cells, pro-fibrogenic cells and hepatic stellate cells; it plays important roles in endothelial proliferation and cardiovascular development. Mutations in the ENG gene lead to Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, a disorder characterized by arteriovenous malformations. An extracellular domain of the full-length membrane endoglin, soluble endoglin, is a proposed biomarker of cardiovascular disease progression, cardiovascular disease treatment and endothelial dysfunction. Endoglin is also expressed in the syncytiotrophoblast throughout pregnancy, but transiently upregulated in the extravillous trophoblast of anchoring villi. Furthermore, endoglin is overexpressed in the tumor-associated vascular endothelium, where it modulates angiogenesis.
